Netflix Acquired Interpositive

Deal Overview

Netflix acquired InterPositive, a Los Angeles-based startup specializing in AI filmmaking technology, in March 2026. The deal includes InterPositive’s proprietary technology and its 16-person team of engineers and researchers.

The tools focus on automated post-production tasks such as shot reframing, lighting adjustments, and environment enhancement. Netflix plans to integrate these tools directly into its production pipeline.

InterPositive will operate inside Eyeline, Netflix’s unified VFX division formed in 2025 through the merger of Scanline VFX and Eyeline Studios. This brings more of the visual effects process inside Netflix’s production infrastructure.

The tools will remain exclusive to Netflix productions and creative partners. Netflix does not plan to offer them as a third-party SaaS product.

Parties & Dealmakers

The transaction was led by Elizabeth Stone, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Netflix, and Bela Bajaria, Chief Content Officer.

InterPositive was founded in 2022 by Ben Affleck. He joins Netflix as a Senior Adviser.

The integration will be managed by Eyeline CEO Stephan Trojansky. InterPositive’s tools will be deployed across Eyeline’s global VFX infrastructure, including the recently opened 30,000-square-foot facility in Hyderabad.

Vertical Integration Logic: From Simulation to Automation

Netflix began building its internal VFX infrastructure with the 2021 acquisition of Scanline VFX. Scanline brought simulation technology, including the Flowline fluid system.

InterPositive adds automation across routine post-production tasks.

These tools automate cleanup and utility VFX work, including lighting adjustments, reframing, and environment enhancements, tasks that have traditionally required significant manual labor.

The system trains on a production’s own dailies. This allows automation to operate within the project’s existing visual material.

This model differs from the traditional vendor structure, where studios rely on multiple third-party VFX houses working across separate pipelines.

Other studios have also moved to control core creation technology. Sony acquired Pixomondo in 2022; Unity acquired Weta Digital’s technology division.

Tests on The Eternaut show that this automation can significantly reduce post-production timelines. This allows more production capital to move toward high-end creative assets rather than technical processing.

Supply-Chain Impact

Integrating InterPositive into the Eyeline and Scanline infrastructure changes how Netflix allocates VFX work.

As more utility VFX moves inside Netflix, external vendors are more likely to focus on specialized work that requires distinctive artistic capabilities.

The move also establishes a controlled AI training environment. Netflix’s tools operate inside a closed system and do not train on external or copyrighted datasets.

This reduces legal exposure tied to AI training practices. It also points toward enterprise-secured environments as the operational model for AI inside high-budget productions.

Vitrina Perspective

The integration of InterPositive inside Eyeline expands Netflix’s internal control over the visual effects pipeline.

Automation now sits alongside simulation and production services inside the same infrastructure. This shifts more VFX activity from external vendors into Netflix’s internal systems.

As automation handles more utility work, external vendors are likely to concentrate on specialized visual effects and complex creative execution.

For competing studios, the move highlights a broader decision around VFX infrastructure. Studios can rely on external vendors, or they can invest in internal technology stacks that bring more of the production pipeline in-house.
