France Télévisions Signs New Agreement to Boost Investment in Audiovisual Heritage

Paris, France – [17.06.2024] France Télévisions has finalized a groundbreaking agreement with AnimFrance, SATEV, SEDPA, SPECT, SPI, and USPA, reinforcing its financial commitment to the exhibition of audiovisual heritage works across its platforms. This new contract succeeds the 2019 agreement and spans three years, with the option to extend to five years by mutual consent.

Increased Financial Commitment

The new agreement ensures France Télévisions’ continued investment of €440 million per year in the creation of diverse content. This investment is not only sustained but also increased in several key genres compared to the previous agreement.

Investment by Genre

  • Documentaries: At least €105 million per year will be allocated to documentaries, with €14 million dedicated to regional and overseas documentaries. This is an increase from the previous allocation of €101 million and €12.2 million, respectively. Additionally, France Télévisions aims to significantly enhance the funding for under-resourced documentary offerings.
  • Entertainment: The investment in entertainment content will rise from €32 million in 2024 to €35 million in 2025, €36 million in 2026, and €37 million in 2027.
  • Live Shows: A minimum of €17 million per year will be devoted to live shows, up from €15.75 million in the previous agreement.
  • Short Films: For the first time, a specific commitment of €1.5 million has been allocated for short films.

Support for Subsidiaries and Rights Management

20% of this investment could be reserved for France Télévisions subsidiaries, enhancing their role in content creation. In exchange for its financial support, France Télévisions will secure “360° rights” for periods ranging from 30 to 42 months, tailored to the level of its funding for each work. The agreement also extends to France Télévisions the same conditions of access to mandates and co-production shares applicable to other publishers.

In Summary

This new agreement underscores France Télévisions’ dedication to nurturing and promoting audiovisual heritage through substantial financial investment and strategic partnerships. By increasing its funding across various genres, France Télévisions reaffirms its commitment to high-quality content creation and cultural preservation.
