The Project

Hook:

Two teenagers meet on a school bench in Chennai in 2001. Twenty years, four cities, and a lifetime of near-misses later, they’re still circling the same unanswered question – was it love, or just timing that never once went their way?

Concept:

AMOR pairs Korean cinematic restraint with the emotional scale of Tamil storytelling – a tonal register close to Parasite’s festival-to-box-office crossover and RRR’s pan-Asian reach. It’s a bilingual co-production built for two of the world’s biggest audiences at once: Tamil and Korean dialogue, six original songs, and a lead actress from the Palme d’Or and Best Picture-winning ensemble of Parasite. With a signed Seoul co-production partner and delivery timed to the 80th Cannes, the IP is positioned to open both markets.

Format:

Feature Film · Drama/Romance · Tamil–Korean Co-production

Franchise potential: remake rights across Indian languages, plus music and live-event extensions, identified as standalone assets.

Comparables:

Past Lives (2023) — 3.6× theatrical return ($12M budget / $42.7M worldwide) — Specialty crossover

When Harry Met Sally (1989) — 5.8× theatrical return ($16M budget / $92.8M gross) — Genre-defining hit

Normal People (2020) — 62.7M UK.

The Opportunity

The Ask:

Production financing partner or co-production equity, structured through a dedicated India–Korea SPV.

Open to full or partial production equity

Open to distribution or streaming pre-buys

Open to co-production partners bringing territory-specific incentives

Why Now:

Korean culture has never had a bigger global audience, and Indian cinema has never had more international distribution infrastructure to meet it. AMOR is structured to shoot this year and deliver for the 80th Cannes – a narrow window where both markets’ attention curves are rising at once.

De-Risked From Day One:

✓ Signed co-production MOU with a Seoul-based partner, inked before the Korean Minister for Culture during an official New Delhi visit

✓ Eligible for Korean (KOFIC) location tax rebate alongside Indian co-production incentives

✓ Distribution relationships in place across Korea, South/Southeast Asia, and India theatrical, plus dedicated festival and market representation

✓ Full lead cast and key department heads (editor, sound, line producer) attached ahead of financing close
