Will Ferrell is preparing to enter the realm of televised courtroom drama.

Ferrell will star under the direction of Nicholas Stoller in the comedy film Judgment Day, which is currently being developed by Amazon MGM Studios. Stoller has also written the screenplay for the project.

The plot of Judgment Day revolves around a young ex-con who, after his release from prison, takes an unscripted TV courtroom hostage, believing that the TV judge played by Ferrell made a ruling that ruined his life.

Producers for the film include Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown from Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Stoller from Stoller Global Solutions.

Ferrell will soon appear alongside Reese Witherspoon in Amazon MGM’s film You’re Cordially Invited, directed by Stoller. This wedding-themed comedy also features Geraldine Viswanathan and Jimmy Tatro and will start streaming on Prime Video on January 30.

Stoller is recognized for directing films such as Bros, Neighbors and its sequel, as well as Forgetting Sarah Marshall. His screenwriting credits include The Muppets, Yes Man, and Fun With Dick and Jane. Additionally, he co-created the Apple TV+ series Platonic, featuring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, which has been renewed for a second season.

Ferrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele are highlighted in the recent Netflix documentary Will & Harper. Furthermore, he is set to produce and star in Street Justice by 20th Century Studios, directed by Peter Atencio. His recent projects also include Barbie and voice roles in Despicable Me 4 and Strays.

Stoller is represented by UTA.
