Screenwest Announces Nation-Leading 20% Post‑Production Incentive (Western Australia )

Incentive Boost for PDV Firms in WA

As of 1st July, Screenwest will apply a flat 20% rebate on qualifying post‑production, digital, and visual effects (PDV) expenditure in Western Australia. Previously, only the first A$500,000 qualified at 20%, with amounts above that eligible for just 10%.

Leading the Nation in Post‑Production Support

This enhanced incentive positions Western Australia as the most competitive post‑production jurisdiction in Australia. Funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, it operates in addition to the Federal Government’s 30% PDV tax offset for projects with a minimum spend of A$500,000.

Strategic Goal: Attracting National and International Projects

Screenwest CEO Rikki Lea Bestall stated, “This is the most competitive post‑production incentive in Australia and is squarely aimed at encouraging more post‑production projects to Western Australia to do business with our skilled practitioners…”. The aim is to retain PDV work in‑state and leverage the pipeline of scripted and documentary productions currently filming locally—and especially once Perth Film Studios opens in Malaga next year.

Expected Outcomes

The 20% flat rebate is expected to:

  • Retain more PDV work within Western Australia

  • Support local editors, sound designers, VFX artists, and animators

  • Elevate WA’s profile as a full‑service screen and PDV hub

Application and Guidelines

Rebate eligibility is assessed upon delivery of work; approval is not automatic even when criteria are met. Guidelines and application details are available from Screenwest.
