Viu, the video streaming platform owned by PCCW, has expanded its content lineup with the launch of Viu Shorts, a new section dedicated to short-form vertical videos on the Viu mobile app.
Viu Shorts offers micro-dramas designed for quick, on-the-go viewing, with episodes typically lasting between one and three minutes. This new feature complements Viu’s existing library of premium long-form series and films, providing viewers with more flexibility in how they enjoy content.
Janice Lee, CEO of Viu and Managing Director of PCCW Media Group, commented, “We are excited to introduce Viu Shorts, which brings fast-paced, episodic storytelling in a 1–3 minute format. This addition enhances our extensive range of series and movies, allowing us to engage audiences according to their content preferences and offer enjoyable viewing for every moment.”
The Viu Shorts collection features a growing selection of multilingual and multi-genre micro-dramas in Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Indonesian. Genres include romance, thriller, fantasy, and variety, with all content supported by local-language subtitles to ensure accessibility across Viu’s markets.
Optimized for mobile use, Viu Shorts is fully integrated into the Viu app. A new bottom navigation bar allows users to easily switch between short-form videos and the platform’s full-length series and movies. Viu Shorts operates on a freemium model: subscribers have unlimited access to the entire micro-drama catalog, while non-subscribers can view selected titles, with advertising varying by subscription level.
To maintain a steady flow of new content, Viu has partnered with established micro-drama distributors such as Rising Joy and KT Studiogenie, as well as producers including China Huace, 1001 Frames, and Youhug Media. This initiative supports Viu’s mobile-first strategy and responds to the growing demand for high-quality short-form entertainment.
The updated Viu app, featuring the new Viu Shorts section, is now available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Viu currently operates across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa.
