New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animations are set to launch The Lord of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim on February 28, exclusively on Max. This highly anticipated film will also be available on HBO linear starting March 1.

 

A Glimpse into Rohan’s Rich History

 

Taking place 183 years prior to the iconic trilogy, The War of the Rohirrim explores the saga of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the esteemed King of Rohan. When a sudden attack threatens their existence, Helm and his people must make a valiant stand in the ancient fortress of Hornburg, which will later be recognized as Helm’s Deep. In this dire situation, Héra Hammerhand emerges as a leader, rallying the resistance against a formidable enemy bent on their annihilation.

 

Star-Studded Voice Cast and Creative Team

 

Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the film features a remarkable voice cast. Brian Cox lends his voice to Helm Hammerhand, while Gaia Wise portrays his daughter Héra, and Luke Pasqualino takes on the role of Wulf. Notably, Miranda Otto returns as Éowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan, serving as the narrator for this epic tale. The ensemble also includes talents like Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, and Benjamin Wainwright, among others.

 

Expert Production Team Behind the Scenes

 

The film is produced by Philippa Boyens, a key figure from the acclaimed screenwriting team behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, alongside Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou. Executive producers include industry veterans Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Ken Kamins, Carolyn Blackwood, and Toby Emmerich. The screenplay is crafted by Jeffrey Addiss & Will Matthews, along with Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou, based on the rich characters created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
