The kings of CBS legal drama are back. A decade after The Good Wife redefined courtroom storytelling for network television, Robert and Michelle King are returning to their roots with a new series — and this time, they’re teaming up once again with Mike Colter. CBS has officially handed a series order to Cupertino, a legal drama created and executive produced by the Kings under their King Size Productions banner. The series will star Colter — best known for playing Marvel’s Luke Cage and for his long-running collaborations with the Kings on The Good Wife and Evil — and is set to premiere during the 2026–2027 television season.
Cupertino is described as a “David vs. Goliath legal drama”, with Colter starring as a lawyer working for a Silicon Valley start-up company who gets fired without due cause, allowing his employers to cheat him out of his lucrative stock options. Looking to hit back, he joins forces with another lawyer in similar circumstances to represent those victimized by today’s tech titans. The series is named after Cupertino, California, a city in Silicon Valley that is home to the headquarters of a number of tech firms; it was once the home of HP, and is now the site of Apple’s massive home base, Apple Park.
Mike Colter Knows a Legal Drama
Colter revealed that he’s already been on the set of Elsbeth, CBS’ procedural spin-off starring Carrie Preston, and has close ties to several members of the cast. More importantly, he sees a path for his appearance on the show, but it depends on the right circumstances. Colter also noted that Michael Emerson, his co-star on Evil, was a recurring star on the series. He told audiences:
“You know what, I think it’s funny, Michael Emerson is in Elsbeth and he’s married to Carrie. Elsbeth is shot literally around the corner from us, so I went to the set and hung out with the guys. I’m a big fan of Wendell Pierce and Carrie, so it’s possible for me if they come up with something interesting.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Cupertino.
