Channel 4 has welcomed Spirit Studios into its Indie Growth Fund, marking a significant step for the independent production company. With a diverse portfolio of engaging content and a commitment to mental health initiatives, Spirit Studios is poised for exciting growth ahead.

Channel 4 has announced that Spirit Studios is the latest independent production company to join its Indie Growth Fund. Founded by Peter Cowley and Matt Campion, Spirit Studios has made a name for itself by producing and distributing a diverse range of original unscripted and scripted content, podcasts, and branded material.

In addition to its production work, Spirit Studios manages various digital and social media platforms, including the global mental health initiative #IAMWHOLE. Some of their standout productions include:

  • The Stand Up Sketch Show for ITV
  • BAMOUS for the BBC
  • The Whole Truth
  • First Impressions
  • Trigger Happy for Channel 4
  • Comedy Against Living Miserably for Dave/UKTV

Their rapidly growing podcast network features popular shows like:

  • Private Parts with Jamie Laing
  • Homo Sapiens with Alan Cumming and Chris Sweeney
  • Oti Mabuse’s Rhythm of Life

They also have several commissions for platforms such as BBC Sounds, Audible, Spotify, and Red Bull.

Caroline Murphy, Head of the Indie Growth Fund at Channel 4, shared her thoughts: “Matt and Peter have built an incredibly multi-faceted company that spans a remarkably broad spectrum of digital and linear media. Their values align closely with those of Channel 4, and I am confident that their passion, vision, and creativity, combined with our support from the Indie Growth Fund, will drive Spirit Studios to even greater success.”

Peter Cowley, CEO and co-founder of Spirit Studios, expressed his excitement about the partnership: “This is a significant moment in Spirit’s journey. We are thrilled to have Channel 4 help us scale our operations as we continue to disrupt the industry and aim to become a leading independent in the future.”

Matt Campion, co-founder and Creative Director, who initiated #IAMWHOLE to address mental health stigma among youth, added: “Our ethos at Spirit is ‘Funny Feeling’, which guides our creative process. This allows us to create content that is not only highly engaging but also furthers our mission and purpose.”

The addition of Spirit Studios brings the total number of companies in the Channel 4 Indie Growth Fund portfolio to 16, with eight companies having joined since 2020.
