The Animation Is Film Festival, a premier event in Los Angeles dedicated to celebrating the finest in international animation, has unveiled its exciting lineup for its eighth edition this October. Produced by GKIDS in collaboration with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, this festival will feature a variety of films vying for recognition in the upcoming Oscars Animated Feature category, with shortlist announcements expected in December.

Opening the festival is “Scarlet,” an anime film directed by Mamoru Hosoda, which made its debut at the Venice Film Festival this summer and is set for theatrical release on December 12. The festival’s centerpiece selection is “Arco,” the debut feature from French director Ugo Bienvenu, which premiered at Cannes in May. To conclude the festival, attendees can look forward to the screening of “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain,” co-directed by Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han.

Other notable films in competition include:

• “All You Need Is Kill” – A time-loop adventure during an alien invasion.
• “Lesbian Space Princess” – A princess embarks on a cosmic quest to rescue her ex-girlfriend.
• “I Am Frankelda” – A 19th-century writer confronts her own creations.

Special screenings will also feature:

• A newly remastered 3D print of “Paranorman” paired with the world premiere of the short “Paranorman: The Thrifting.”
• “Chainsaw Man: The Movie — Reze Arc” – A highly anticipated anime film.
• A work-in-progress panel for Disney’s “Zootopia 2.”
