Ric Roman Waugh Partners with Lionsgate

Acclaimed action director Ric Roman Waugh, known for his work on Angel Has Fallen and Greenland, has entered into a first look deal with Lionsgate.

Focus on Genre Productions

This new producing agreement, which targets the genre space, will also encompass Waugh’s CineMachine Media Works and his production partner Brendon Boyea. As they solidify their production collaboration, Lionsgate has recently acquired the action-thriller Renegotiate, set to be penned by Mark Townend and produced by Waugh and Boyea, alongside Brian Kavanagh Jones and Fred Berger from Range Media Partners, with AJ Bourscheid serving as executive producer.

Waugh’s Enthusiasm for Collaboration

In a statement released on Friday, Waugh expressed his excitement: “When you’re surrounded by a cadre like this who respect, collaborate, and care for you as their filmmaker, there’s not a place on earth I’d rather call home than Lionsgate.” He is also currently working on an untitled thriller featuring Jason Statham, Naomi Ackie, and Bill Nighy for Black Bear.

Upcoming Releases

Lionsgate is set to release Waugh’s next film, Greenland: Migration, later this year.

Strategic Partnership Announcement

The first look deal was announced by Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, who stated: “Ric’s skill and success with action films makes him a coveted director and producer for the most reliable action stars in the world. We are excited to be his home base and to collaborate with him on a slate of projects that we are confident will thrill audiences worldwide.”

History of Collaboration

Waugh and Boyea first collaborated on the 2020 global disaster thriller Greenland. The CineMachine banner also includes Kenner Bolt, senior VP of film.

Award-Winning Team

Boyea and Bolt previously worked together on the Sundance film The Accidental Getaway Driver, which won the directing award in the festival’s U.S. Dramatic competition. The production deal was negotiated by Dan Freedman for Lionsgate, with Waugh represented by Range Media Partners and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
