Exciting Adaptation Announcement

Wildside, The Apartment, Fremantle, and Fandango have unveiled plans for the first-ever scripted format adaptation of the internationally acclaimed drama My Brilliant Friend. This new rendition, inspired by Elena Ferrante’s bestselling Neapolitan novels, will be produced in Türkiye by OGM Pictures, with filming slated to commence later this year.

Story Overview

Drawing from Ferrante’s globally celebrated quadrilogy, published in the US by Europa Editions, the narrative explores the enduring friendship between two women, Elena and Lila, beginning in 1950s Naples. The story unfolds through the eyes of Elena Greco, now an elderly writer, who starts chronicling their shared experiences after Lila mysteriously vanishes.

Previous Adaptations

HBO and RAI previously adapted the novels into a four-season series, which premiered in 2018 and concluded in November 2024, receiving widespread critical acclaim. Distributed by Fremantle to over 170 territories, the original series reached Turkish viewers through platforms like Digiturk, Tabii, Turkcell TV+, and Puhu TV.

Production Details

My Brilliant Friend was created by Saverio Costanzo and produced by The Apartment and Wildside, both Fremantle companies, in partnership with Fandango, RAI Fiction, and HBO Entertainment. The screenplays were crafted by Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Saverio Costanzo, with Fremantle overseeing global sales in collaboration with RAI Com.
