Exciting New US Teaser for Joe Wright’s ‘Mussolini: Son of the Century’ Series

“The world as we know it is no longer working.” Mubi has unveiled the teaser trailer for the series now titled Mussolini: Son of the Century in English, previously known as M. Son of the Century (or M: Il figlio del secolo in Italian) during its initial premiere. We’ve been closely following this project since it made its debut at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, where it was featured as one of the standout series. Mubi is set to launch the series for streaming in the US (as well as in Latin America, Turkey, India, and Canada) in late 2025. This gripping narrative is based on the bestselling novel by Antonio Scurati, who won the prestigious Premio Strega. The series boasts a techno soundtrack by Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers. Wright described the aesthetic as a fusion of ’90s rave culture and the groundbreaking 1929 avant-garde documentary Man with a Movie Camera, stating, “It’s a blend of Man with a Movie Camera and every gangster film you’ve ever seen.” The series stars Luca Marinelli (The Eight Mountains, Martin Eden) as the notorious Benito Mussolini, alongside a talented cast including Francesco Russo, Barbara Chichiarelli, Benedetta Cimatti, Lorenzo Zurzolo, Gaetano Bruno, and Paolo Pierobon. This series is essential viewing for those interested in the dynamics of fascism and its resurgence, making it a compelling addition to the current landscape of television.

Il figlio del secolo in Italian, is a mini-series directed by the renowned filmmaker Joe Wright, known for his work on Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, The Soloist, Hanna, Anna Karenina, Pan, Darkest Hour, The Woman in the Window, and Cyrano, as well as the “Nosedive” episode of Black Mirror. The screenplay is crafted by Stefano Bises (Gomorrah, The New Pope) in collaboration with Davide Serino (known for 1992, Piano Piano, Burning Hearts). This series was filmed entirely at the iconic Cinecittà Studios in Rome. Executive producers include Valerio Bonelli, Simone Gattoni, Pablo Larraín, Paolo Sorrentino, Francesco Tatò, and Joe Wright. It premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and debuted on SkyTV in February of this year, with a release in Italy in January.
