Prime Video has released the first official trailer for the highly anticipated documentary film John Candy: I Like Me, a biopic profiling the life of beloved actor and comedian John Candy. The film is premiering this week at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival in Canada, a fitting location as John Candy was Canadian.
The film explores the life and legacy of the iconic funnyman, who died of a heart attack in 1994 at the age of 43. Directed by Colin Hanks and produced by Ryan Reynolds, John Candy: I Like Me shares John Candy’s story through the words of those who knew him best, using never-before-seen archival footage, imagery, and interviews. It is a documentary of the life, career, and loss of one of the most beloved actors of all time, and tells the story of a son, husband, father, friend, and professional driven to bring joy to audiences and loved ones while battling personal struggles and Hollywood pressures. The film features a new song by Cynthia Erivo.
Premiering at TIFF this month, the documentary will be available globally on Prime Video in October.
John Candy: I Like Me documents Candy’s on- and off-camera life, featuring never-before-seen home videos, intimate access to his family, and candid recollections from collaborators to paint a picture of one of the brightest stars of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.
The film is directed by Colin Hanks, who previously directed the documentaries All Things Must Pass and Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends).
