Hyderabad has made a significant leap in the creative arts by launching India’s first dedicated school for manga and anime. This collaboration between IACG Multimedia College and Kyoto Seika University promises to equip students with essential skills and cultural insights, paving the way for a new generation of artists.

On September 10, 2025, Hyderabad proudly opened the doors to India’s first dedicated school for manga and anime. This innovative institution is a result of a collaboration between IACG Multimedia College and Kyoto Seika University from Japan, designed to provide Indian students with direct access to authentic Japanese expertise in the art of manga and anime creation.

The curriculum not only focuses on the technical aspects of creating manga and anime but also emphasizes the importance of learning the Japanese language and cultural values. This comprehensive approach is supported by faculty members from Kyoto Seika University, while IACG instructors will share their knowledge in VFX and gaming.

As part of an enriching student exchange program, IACG students will have the chance to study at Kyoto Seika University, while their Japanese counterparts can gain valuable experiences at IACG. This initiative fosters cross-cultural learning and innovation, enhancing the educational journey for all involved.

The school will offer an intermediate program, allowing students to delve deeply into core subjects and prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at the N2 level. This pathway is designed to facilitate graduation opportunities at Kyoto Seika University.

On the same day, leaders from both institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at T-Hub in Hyderabad, with notable attendees including Takashi Suzuki from JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) India, D. Sridhar Babu, the IT & C Minister of Telangana, and representatives from Young India Skills University (YISU) and Green Gold Animation. This initiative is further supported by JETRO, the Government of Telangana, YISU, and several production houses from the Telangana VFX, Animation and Gaming Association (TVAGA).

Recently, IACG hosted a 10-day manga workshop led by renowned Japanese artist Ryota Sakamoto. Participants engaged in storytelling, panel composition, and character design techniques, gaining insights into the professional practices of Japan. This workshop combined hands-on experience with cultural understanding, equipping students not just with drawing skills, but also with the mindset of a manga creator.

The launch of the manga and anime school addresses the increasing demand for skilled artists in this field and aims to promote collaborative research initiatives that will benefit the broader creative industry.
