December 22nd, 2024 Haylie Baker

On December 19, 2024, following the conclusion of its inaugural season, Crunchyroll officially announced that the record-setting anime Dan Da Dan will be returning for a second season, which is scheduled to premiere in July 2025. A newly unveiled visual showcases Jiji with a menacing expression, while Okarun and Momo gear up for a confrontation in the foreground. In the background, the enigmatic Evil Eye looms ominously over the protagonists, heightening the anticipation for the upcoming season. Additionally, portraits of classical composers and a small kaiju suggest the chaotic and unpredictable essence of Dan Da Dan that fans can expect to see continued in the next installment.

The original series, created by Yukinobu Tatsu, was initially serialized in Shonen Jump Plus and has been adapted into an anime by the acclaimed animation studio Science SARU, known for their work on The Colors Within and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The production team includes Fuga Yamashiro as the director, Hiroshi Seko as the scriptwriter, Naoyuki Onda handling character design, Junichi Higashi as the art director, Kiyoshi Hirose as the editor, Kazuto Izumita as the compositing director, and Eriko Kimura as the sound director. The series features music from kensuke ushio, character design by Naoyuki Onda, creature design by Yoshimichi Kameda, and color design by Satoshi Hashimoto and Makiho Kondo. The opening theme “Otonoke” is performed by Creepy Nuts, while the ending theme “TAIDADA” is by ZUTOMAYO. The voice cast includes Shion Wakayama (JP) and Abby Trott (EN) as “Momo,” Natsuki Hanae (JP) and AJ Beckles (EN) as “Okarun,” Nana Mizuki (JP) and Kari Wahlgren (EN) as “Seiko,” among others, with the character for “Evil Eye” yet to be announced.

Synopsis

In Dan Da Dan, Momo hails from a family of spirit mediums, while her classmate Okarun is an aficionado of the occult. Both faced bullying during their childhood for their unique beliefs. Their paths converge when Momo defends Okarun, leading to a spirited debate about the existence of ghosts versus aliens. Unfortunately for them, both are real, and their developing friendship is put to the test as they confront supernatural forces while navigating their feelings for one another.
