Nielsen, a major player in audience measurement and TV ratings, has introduced a new executive position focused on client relations and appointed Peter Naylor as its first Chief Client Officer.

In this new role, Naylor will work directly with Nielsen’s clients, including publishers from both traditional television and digital platforms. His main responsibilities include making sure Nielsen’s services meet client needs and collaborating with the company’s sales, product, and research teams to support partners’ business growth. Naylor will report to Nielsen CEO Karthik Rao.

Rao commented that close collaboration with clients is essential for Nielsen’s ongoing success, especially as the company advances in areas like Big Data + Panel measurement, live streaming, and artificial intelligence. Rao highlighted Naylor’s experience across linear TV, streaming, and social media, noting his understanding of evolving consumer and client needs.

Naylor brings significant industry experience to the position. He was previously Netflix’s first Vice President of Global Advertising Sales, where he helped build the company’s advertising sales, research, and creative services teams after joining in 2022. Naylor left Netflix in mid-2024, following the earlier departure of ad sales executive Jeremi Gorman. Before his time at Netflix, Naylor led sales for the Americas at Snap, contributing to a 50% revenue increase, and served as Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales at Hulu, where he played a key role in developing ad-supported streaming models. Earlier in 2024, Naylor also joined the board of advertising company Cadent.

Naylor’s appointment comes as Nielsen addresses ongoing industry scrutiny about its measurement methods. Recently, the NFL’s Chief Data and Analytics Officer raised concerns about possible undercounting of viewers. In response, Nielsen has launched new products like its Big Data + Panel solution and expanded its out-of-home measurement capabilities.

Naylor expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “Nielsen’s partners represent the very best of advertising and media. I am thrilled to be in a position to support them and the markets we serve during this dynamic time in media.” He added that his experience as a long-time Nielsen customer will help him support clients and contribute to the development of new products.

Other measurement companies are also strengthening their leadership teams. Last month, iSpot appointed former Rakuten Rewards executive Julie Van Ullen as its new Chief Revenue Officer.
