Series Synopsis
Set in the Edo period, the story follows a shrine maiden named “Itskihime” in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a wandering orphan who becomes the guardian of the shrine maiden alongside his younger sister Suzune, embarks on a quest into the forest to confront a mysterious demon. This demon warns him of a looming threat from a Demon God in the far future. Thus begins an epic supernatural journey that traverses from the Edo to Heisei periods, as Jinta grapples with the implications of wielding a sword.
The anime is directed by Kazuya Aiura (Horimiya, Move to the Future) and penned by Deko Akao (Unnamed Memory, Carole & Tuesday), featuring character designs by Taro Ikegami (Lapis Re:Lights) and produced by Yokohama Animation Laboratory.
The cast includes Taku Yashiro (Friede in Pokémon Horizons: The Series) as Jinta, Reina Ueda (Mayu in Wonderful PreCure!) as Suzune, and Saori Hayami (Shoko in A Silent Voice) as Shirayuki.
The 14-volume light novel series of Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is published by Futabasha, while the manga series, illustrated by Yū Satomi and written by Motoo Nakanishi, has reached seven volumes since its launch in September 2021, also under Futabasha’s Action Comics label. English versions of both the manga and light novel are available through Seven Seas Entertainment.
