Mockingbird Pictures, a rising Vietnamese sales agent, has acquired international rights to the local horror film The Whispering Spirit, featuring Tram Anh (known for Face Off 7: One Wish). The company is debuting sales at the Asian Contents and Film Market (ACFM) in Busan.

In addition to The Whispering Spirit, Mockingbird Pictures has also secured two Indonesian horror films: Bridge Of Judgment (Jembatan Shiratal Mustaqim) and Labinak: They Are Almost Us. This marks the company’s first venture into regional co-production.

The Whispering Spirit is set for release in Vietnam in the fourth quarter of 2025. The film draws inspiration from ancient myths surrounding special days known as ‘Tam Nương’, which are believed to carry curses. The plot follows a young mother, portrayed by Tram Anh, who relocates to the city with her three children, unaware that their new home was built on a cursed day, leading to a tragic fate for its owners. The film is produced by Karakter Film and co-directed by Peter Pham and Tran Duy Linh.

Labinak: They Are Almost Us features Raihaanun, one of Indonesia’s top actresses, alongside actor Arifin Putra, known for The Raid 2. The story revolves around a teacher who takes a job at an elite private school, only to discover that the staff is seeking a volunteer for a cannibalistic ritual. Released in late August in Indonesia, the film is produced by Anami Films and directed by Azhar Kinoi Lubis, who is known for the horror hit Petaka Gunung Gedé, which has become the third biggest film of 2025 in Indonesia with 3.2 million admissions.

Bridge Of Judgment is produced by Dee Company, the same team behind the 2024 horror success Vina: Before 7 Days, which was Indonesia’s second biggest film last year with 5.8 million admissions, as well as the 2023 horror film Siksa Neraka. Directed by Bounty Umbara (Vina: Before 7 Days), this horror film is set in the Padang Mahsyar, where souls are judged for their sins before crossing the bridge to heaven or hell. Mockingbird Pictures entered the international sales market last year after establishing itself as one of Vietnam’s largest independent distributors, handling both Asian and U.S. films. Mockingbird’s ACFM lineup also features Exorcise: The Blood Demon, starring Kieu Minh Tuan (Blood Moon Party), Diep Bao Ngoc (Face Off 6: The Ticket Of Destiny), and Nutthatcha Padovan, the child star from Thailand’s popular Death Whisperer series. Directed by Do Quoc Trung, this film is inspired by ghost stories from Vietnam’s Northwestern mountains and is set for release in the first quarter of next year.
