Bundesliga Expands Reach: New Deals with Indonesia's MNC and Telkomsel

Bundesliga International has confirmed the renewal of its broadcasting agreements with prominent Indonesian broadcasters MNC and Telkomsel. This extension allows fans in Indonesia to continue following the Bundesliga, featuring players like Kevin Diks, who is recognized as the first Indonesian to compete in Germany’s top-tier football league. As part of the renewed partnership, all matches of Borussia Mönchengladbach will be available free-to-air during the current season via MNC’s extensive broadcasting network.

Diks, who was raised in the Netherlands but qualifies to represent Indonesia through his mother, recently transferred to Mönchengladbach from FC Copenhagen. His debut in the Bundesliga occurred recently, where he successfully maintained a clean sheet in the opening match against HSV.

With this renewed deal, Indonesian football enthusiasts can access all of Mönchengladbach’s matches at no cost on MNC’s RCTI and iNews channels. MNC, being Indonesia’s largest media conglomerate, serves millions of households each week. Under the terms of the agreement, Bundesliga International will utilize MNC’s channels to exclusively broadcast matches across various platforms, including subscription, Free-To-Air (FTA), and Over-The-Top (OTT) options.

All nine matches during each Bundesliga matchday will be aired on MNC Media. Moreover, up to four of these matches will be featured free-to-air, ensuring widespread accessibility. In addition, Telkomsel has renewed its broadcasting contract to deliver every Bundesliga game for the upcoming season through IndiHome TV, specifically on its AllPlay Sports Channel 700.

On the field, Diks is excited about his inaugural season with Borussia Mönchengladbach, often known as Die Fohlen. His performance will be supported by the broadcasting efforts of both MNC and Telkomsel. Addressing his transition to the Bundesliga, Diks stated, “The move to the Bundesliga is a significant step for me in terms of sports: tougher competition, a larger environment, and a new challenge. I was eager to take on this challenge. I have received a warm welcome from the entire team in Mönchengladbach. We had an intensive preseason, and I am focused on giving my all for the Bundesliga.”

Additionally, it has been a dynamic period for the Bundesliga in Indonesia, characterized by summer football clinics conducted at newly upgraded facilities in Jakarta, as part of the Bundesliga Common Ground project in partnership with EA FC Futures. This initiative aims to foster investment in global football. Indonesian fans also participated in various matchday viewing events to rally behind their teams.

Key initiatives from the previous season included a mini Bundesliga Experience integrated into the national finals of the Piala by.U high-school futsal championships, in collaboration with Telkomsel’s IndiHome, which introduced fans to a genuine German league football experience at the Mahaka Sports Fest.

As stated by Peer Naubert, Chief Executive Officer of Bundesliga International, “The Bundesliga is indisputably the fastest-growing European football league in Indonesia, demonstrating a ten percent increase in both interest and followers compared to last season. Local ventures, such as the Bundesliga Common Ground and regular watch parties, alongside collaborations with the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), highlight our commitment to nurturing football at all levels. Extending our broadcasting agreements with these two esteemed partners further solidifies our position as market leaders.”
