Armie Hammer’s Collaboration with the Safdie Brothers: A Misunderstanding

Despite a mysterious Instagram post hinting at a partnership, Armie Hammer is not collaborating with the Safdie brothers.

Teasing a New Project

On Monday afternoon, Hammer posted a movie poster on his Instagram for a project titled “Persona Non Grata,” allegedly directed by the acclaimed duo Josh and Benny Safdie, known for their work on “Uncut Gems.” He captioned the post with “Fall 2026.”

Clarification from the Safdie Brothers’ Representatives

Despite the excitement from numerous fans in the comments, representatives for both Benny and Josh Safdie have confirmed to Variety that this project is not in development.

Hammer’s Career Challenges

Once celebrated for roles in films like “The Social Network” and “Call Me By Your Name,” Hammer’s career faced significant setbacks four years ago due to serious allegations of sexual assault.

Allegations and Fallout

In 2021, multiple women accused Hammer of sexual abuse and inappropriate conduct. Disturbing private messages he allegedly sent, detailing cannibalistic fantasies and sexual fetishes, were also leaked online. Following the scandal, Hammer was dropped by his agency, WME, and exited several projects, including the Paramount+ series “The Offer” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Shotgun Wedding.”

A Return to Acting

The actor made his return to the screen last year alongside William H. Macy in the Western film “Frontier Crucible” and is set to appear next in Uwe Boll’s “Citizen Vigilante.”

Positive Developments in Hammer’s Career

Earlier this year, Hammer shared on the podcast “Your Mom’s House” with Christina Pazsitzy and Tom Segura that his acting career has seen a resurgence, stating he is now in a position to “turn down jobs.”

Looking Ahead

“My dance card’s getting pretty full. That first job that I turned down after four years of this shit, I mean, it was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” he expressed. “It’s slow, but generally now the conversation when my name comes up with people in the industry is, ‘Man, that guy got fucked.’ And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging.”
