Angel Studios has acquired the animated feature film The King of Kings for release in 2025, specifically on April 11 in theaters during Holy Week and Easter. The film is inspired by Charles Dickens’ short story The Life of Our Lord and is created by Mofac Animation from South Korea, marking the directorial debut of VFX supervisor Seong-ho Jang.

A teaser trailer for the film has been released by Angel Studios.

Jared Geesey, Chief Distribution Officer for Angel Studios, announced the film’s release date, emphasizing the star-studded cast and stunning animation of The King of Kings. The film is part of Angel Studios’ 2025 slate.

The story of The Life of Our Lord by Dickens was a Christmas tradition in his family and was published posthumously in 1934. The film follows Dickens, his son Walter, and their cat Willa as they delve into the story of Jesus.

Mofac and Blue Harbor Entertainment brought the project to Angel Studios due to its faith-based entertainment focus. Director Seong-ho Jang expressed excitement about the project and praised Angel Studios as the perfect partner for a global release.

The film features a star-studded cast including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley, and Roman Griffin Davis.

The screenplay is written by Jang and Rob Edwards, with cinematography by Woo-hyung Kim. Jang and Kim serve as producers, with Blue Harbor Entertainment receiving an ‘in association with’ credit.

The King of Kings is the second animated feature set for release by Angel Studios in 2025, followed by David on November 21, a musical family feature about the shepherd boy who became a great prophet and king.
