Celebrating a Cinematic Milestone: ‘Bunty Aur Babli’

In the realm of cinema, few moments are as significant as the collaboration between a legendary father and his gifted son. We’re referring to the film ‘Bunty Aur Babli,’ which marked the first on-screen pairing of the iconic Amitabh Bachchan and the versatile Abhishek Bachchan. This collaboration generated excitement that extended beyond the film itself. Now, as the movie celebrates its 20th anniversary, Abhishek shares his thoughts, describing the film as simply “fun.”

What Made ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ So Enjoyable?

Abhishek attributes much of the film’s enjoyment to its director, Shaad Ali. “When he shared the story, I couldn’t stop laughing. We rarely encounter such clever crime capers,” the actor remarked. He added, “I was eager to be part of it. Shaad is a dear friend, and I would have collaborated with him even if the film wasn’t as entertaining as ‘Bunty Aur Babli.’ I would gladly work with him again anytime.”

Abhishek Bachchan on Collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan

As the discussion progressed, Abhishek addressed the significant aspect of working alongside his father, the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. “’Bunty Aur Babli’ was our first project together. Honestly, I was quite nervous. I kept asking Shaad how I would manage to perform in front of Paa. Shaad reassured me, and it turned out fine,” Abhishek recalled.

In the film, the real-life father-son duo portrayed a thief and a cop, which Abhishek described as “one of the fun elements.” He noted, “It added an extra layer to the caper. Paa made his entrance midway, and what an entrance it was! The audience went wild.”

Memorable Moments: The ‘Kajra Re’ Song

“I remember you were present at Film City on the first day of shooting for the song. It was my birthday, and to top it off, there was a surprise appearance by Aishwarya Rai, which made the song and the entire sequence even more historic,” Abhishek reminisced. He emphasized that even after two decades, the film holds a special place in his heart.
