PBS KIDS Unveils Weather Hunters Premiere

PBS KIDS is excited to announce the launch of Weather Hunters, an innovative animated STEM series produced by Al Roker Entertainment (ARE), set to debut on July 7, 2025. This engaging project aims to enhance children’s understanding of Earth science and meteorology through a blend of adventure and humor.

Meet the Characters

The series features Lily Hunter, an adventurous and perceptive 8-year-old weather detective, voiced by Tandi Fomukong. She embarks on her investigations alongside her family and friends, including her father Al Hunter (voiced by Al Roker), mother Dot Hunter (Holly Robinson Peete), sister Corky (Kapri Ladd), brother Benny (Lorenzo Ross), and neighbor Ms. Joyce (Sheryl Lee Ralph).

Key Educational Themes

Weather Hunters will cover essential topics such as observing and tracking weather patterns, exploring seasonal weather variations, and understanding the relationship between weather, humans, and the environment. To complement the series, digital content for kids, parents, and educators will be launched simultaneously, featuring interactive games that allow children to create their own weather reports.

Inspiration Behind the Series

Al Roker expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Weather has always been a passion of mine, and inspiring young minds to explore its wonders has been one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey. With Weather Hunters, I’m thrilled to share that passion with a new generation, including my granddaughter, Sky, who reminds me every day of the importance of leaving a better planet for our kids.”

Collaboration for Impact

Production Team and Educational Advisors

Created by Al Roker, Weather Hunters is produced by New York-based Al Roker Entertainment in collaboration with Dete Meserve’s Silver Creek Falls Entertainment. Meserve serves as executive producer and showrunner, with Carin Greenberg also on board as an executive producer. John Semper, Jr. is the head writer and executive producer, while Lisa Tucker executive produces for Al Roker Entertainment.

The series benefits from the expertise of educational consultants, including Dr. Sara B. Sweetman, Associate Professor of Education at the University of Rhode Island, and Ethan Greenberg, a meteorologist and educator with a rich background in meteorological research.

Funding and Animation Collaboration

Weather Hunters is made possible through the generous support of the Anne Ray Foundation, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The animation is produced in partnership with Island of Misfits in Nova Scotia, Canada, alongside collaborators Phillip Stamp and Dana Landry. Additionally, games are developed with Anna Jordan-Douglass at Makefully Studios.
