Neon has acquired worldwide rights to Alex Ullom’s upcoming horror film, 4 X 4: The Event, ahead of its production start later this year. The deal was finalized during the Sundance Film Festival, even though the film is not part of the festival lineup.
This marks Neon’s second collaboration with Ullom, following their recent acquisition of his debut feature, It Ends, which premiered in competition at SXSW last month. 4 X 4: The Event is being produced by Spooky Pictures and Image Nation as part of their ongoing partnership, with Divide / Conquer also joining as producing partners.
The film centers on eight contestants who participate in an illegal, high-stakes livestream, where survival depends on their ability to kill or be killed using only items they can order online.
- Producers: Roy Lee and Steven Schneider (Spooky Pictures), Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath (Divide / Conquer), Haley Johnson, and Evan Barber
- Executive Producers: Ben Ross (Image Nation) and Jakob Pollack (Spooky Pictures)
The agreement was negotiated by Kate Gondwe for Neon, with UTA Independent Film Group representing the filmmakers. Ullom, recently named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film for 2024, is represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
Neon is also working with Spooky Pictures and Image Nation on Damian McCarthy’s upcoming supernatural horror film Hokum, starring Adam Scott, which is set for theatrical release later this year.
On Thursday, Neon received 18 Oscar nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, making it the second most-nominated studio this year.
