Screen Queensland is set to host the Creator Economy Summit during next month’s AACTA Festival on the Gold Coast. This event aims to bring together online creators and screen producers for a day of panel discussions focused on business growth, monetisation strategies, and pathways into the screen industry.
Developed in partnership with Changer and in collaboration with AACTA, the one-day pilot initiative will feature senior representatives from ABC, Netflix, BBC Studios, and Screen Australia. The program also includes creator-led sessions with industry figures such as Sarah Renae Clark, YouTube’s Sabine Zonderland, James McPherson, and Shannon Jones.
Julie Eckersley, executive director of screen content at Screen Queensland, highlighted the agency’s commitment to supporting creators as the screen industry continues to evolve. “It is time to build more bridges between the creator economy and the existing film and television industry. The Creator Economy Summit brings these two elements together to support creators in building sustainable global businesses, while also opening doors for deeper collaboration and understanding within the industry,” she said.
Farhad Meher-Homji, founder of Changer, emphasized that creators are now building real businesses, not just channels. “The Creator Economy Summit is about equipping creators with the tools, connections, and confidence to scale sustainably and engage meaningfully with the broader screen industry,” he stated.
Ivan Vukusic, AACTA Awards and industry development manager, expressed excitement about the collaboration. “By bringing together established leaders in film, television, and media with the dynamic creator economy, this summit will foster genuine dialogue, unlock new partnership opportunities, and inspire innovative approaches to Australian screen content. The AACTA Festival is the perfect crossroads for legacy craft and next-generation creativity, and we are proud to support this important convergence,” he said.
The Creator Economy Summit will take place on Saturday, February 7, at HOTA, Home of the Arts.
