IndieWire is broadening its Future of Filmmaking initiative by incorporating The American Pavilion (AmPav), a leader in film festival student programs for over 30 years. AmPav will continue to deliver its renowned programming at the Cannes Film Festival under its own brand, now in partnership with IndieWire.
Other AmPav programs, including student experiences at the Venice International Film Festival, SXSW, and SXSW London, will now operate under the Future of Filmmaking banner. Launched in 2025, Future of Filmmaking is dedicated to supporting emerging filmmakers as they navigate the evolving entertainment landscape. The initiative features the In Development newsletter, editorial content, videos, and live events.
AmPav previously hosted IndieWire’s first Future of Filmmaking Summit at Cannes in 2025 and has long served as a venue for IndieWire events during the festival. This new partnership will enable IndieWire to offer intensives for students and up-and-coming creatives at major film festivals. The first of these, the SXSW Intensive, is scheduled for March 11–18 in Austin. Students interested in participating can apply until January 28.
Lynne Howard, SVP at AmPav, commented, “IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking is the perfect platform for our programs, which prepare young creatives to succeed in the entertainment industry. Our flagship venue at Cannes will continue to provide top-tier programming, hospitality, and services, now enhanced by IndieWire’s media reach and support.”
Dana Harris-Bridson, SVP and Editor-in-Chief at IndieWire, added, “Future of Filmmaking is designed to help people understand the realities of creative careers today. Integrating AmPav is a natural progression in our ongoing work across reporting, events, and the In Development platform. By combining IndieWire’s brand with practical, real-world experience, we’re opening new pathways for aspiring creatives to learn, connect, and navigate a rapidly changing industry.”
James Israel, SVP and Publisher at IndieWire, said, “We’re excited to continue supporting the next generation of filmmakers and creators, while keeping the industry informed about the changes shaping entertainment. Bringing AmPav into the IndieWire and Future of Filmmaking ecosystem expands opportunities and reach for our sponsors and partners.”
