Filming for the dramatic thriller ‘Broken Glass in the Pool’ is underway, directed by Ruth Caudeli Martí. The film explores themes of cyberbullying and features a mix of new and established actors.

17/09/2025 – The dramatic thriller Broken Glass in the Pool is currently in production, featuring a mix of both emerging and seasoned actors, including Spain’s Mauro Vélez and Colombia’s Flora Martínez and Camila Jurado.

Directed by Valencian filmmaker Ruth Caudeli Martí and based on a screenplay by Javier Artigas, the film explores the story of a lonely teenager who becomes entangled in a toxic relationship with a group of kids through a case of catfishing. Catfishing is a deceptive practice where someone creates a false online identity to manipulate or defraud others emotionally or financially.

“Cyberbullying, especially among younger generations, manifests in various forms today, some of which are less recognized. It is crucial to highlight these issues. By visually representing certain circumstances, we aim to raise awareness and encourage reflection,” said Caudeli Martí.

The film features newcomers selected through a training program organized by Dacsa Produccions, developed specifically for casting by the acting studio Set de Cinema, led by Silvia Santamaria and the director herself. The screenwriter, director of photography Daniel Moreno, and co-producer Xavier Crespo also contributed to this process.

“We sought a level of extreme authenticity, which meant moving away from familiar faces. This approach allowed us to expand our horizons and provide opportunities to new talent who might not typically have access to such projects,” the filmmaker added.

Among the talented young actors discovered through the course are Natalia Lasort, María Guerra, Joel Montalt, Julieta Betancor, and Helios Martos. They are joined by the young Catalan actor Mauro Vélez (known for Las irresponsables) and established Colombian actresses Flora Martínez (famous for her role in Rosario Tijeras) and Camila Jurado (from the series Distrito salvaje).

Filming is set to last four weeks, primarily taking place in Torrent, as well as in Valencia and locations impacted by the DANA storm on October 29, 2024, including the MN4 Cinemas in Alfafar. The feature film is predominantly shot in Valencian, emphasizing the normalcy of multilingualism in Spanish audiovisual media. “As a Valencian-speaking director, I feel a responsibility to tell a story set in our region in Valencian,” concluded Caudeli Martí.

Ruth Caudeli Martí is a queer director, screenwriter, and producer. She has previously written and directed Colombian feature films such as ¿Cómo te llamas? (2018), Segunda estrella a la derecha (2019), Leading Ladies (which received a Special Mention from the Zonazine Jury at the Malaga Film Festival in 2021), and Petit mal (premiered at Tribeca in 2022). Her upcoming feature film, La misma estación, is currently in post-production, alongside her first documentary project, Mírame.

Broken Glass in the Pool is produced by Xavier Crespo of Dacsa Produccions, in collaboration with Óscar Darío Guarín of the Colombian company PFM Producciones. The project is supported by the Valencian Institute of Culture and involves participation from TVE and À Punt. International sales will be managed by Soul Pictures, while distribution in Spain will be handled by 39 Escalones.
