Netflix Announces €1 Billion Investment in Spain Through 2028

Madrid Investment Announcement

10 June 2025 – Madrid – Ted Sarandos, co‑CEO of Netflix, revealed a multi‑year plan to invest more than €1 billion in Spain from 2025 to 2028. The announcement was made during a keynote at Netflix’s flagship production hub in Tres Cantos—its largest studio in the European Union—with the participation of Spain’s President Pedro Sánchez and Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service Óscar López.

A Decade of Local Content

Since Netflix launched in Spain in 2015, the company has produced over 1,000 local titles. Series and films like Cable Girls, The Snow Girl, Nowhere, and All the Truth Behind My Lies showcase Spain’s diverse storytelling across 200 cities and towns, supporting more than 20,000 jobs in the country’s audiovisual sector.

World-Class Infrastructure

The Tres Cantos production center covers 22,000 m² and features ten sound stages and high-end post‑production facilities. It has hosted major Spanish‑language hits such as Society of the Snow (12 Goya Awards), Elite (Netflix’s longest‑running Spanish and international series), La Casa de Papel, and the upcoming Billionaires’ Bunker.

Cultural and Economic Impact

Last year, Spanish titles on Netflix generated more than 5 billion viewing hours globally. With logos like the Dali masks, red jumpsuits, and the “Bella Ciao” anthem now cultural icons, the appeal lies in authentically Spanish stories created by local talent and crews for both domestic and international audiences.

Future Commitment

Ted Sarandos stated: “Over the next four years we plan to invest over €1 billion in Spain. With this investment, we will contribute even more to the Spanish economy, create more Spanish jobs, and tell more great stories made in Spain.” He also expressed gratitude to the government for its supportive audiovisual regulations and emphasized continued collaboration to foster creativity and growth.
