Chambers will take over from Jan Koeppen, who is resigning in February after six years as the regional lead, as part of a restructuring within Disney’s entertainment operations in EMEA.

Tony Chambers, currently the head of theatrical distribution at Disney, will assume the role of president of The Walt Disney Company for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) starting in February. This transition follows Jan Koeppen’s departure after a six-year tenure, as the company undergoes a regional restructuring. Chambers will report to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, along with ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro.

In his new position, Chambers will manage Disney’s business activities across more than 130 markets in the EMEA region. A successor for his current role as global head of theatrical distribution will be announced soon. Disney’s first major film release for 2024 will be the Marvel Studios title Captain America: Brave New World, set to premiere on February 14. In 2024, Disney achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first studio to exceed $5 billion in global box office revenue post-pandemic, a level not reached since 2019. This marks the sixth occasion Disney has reached this benchmark since 2010.

Chambers, a veteran with 30 years of experience in the industry, has led Disney’s theatrical distribution team since January 2021, overseeing the distribution of films from various Disney divisions including Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures. Prior to this role, he was the Senior Vice President of Studio Distribution for Europe and served as the country manager for the UK and Ireland.

Jan Koeppen, who became president of Disney EMEA in 2019, was responsible for the company’s commercial and operational strategies in the region. Under his leadership, Disney+ was established and expanded in EMEA. Before joining Disney, Koeppen was the president of Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa and COO of 21st Century Fox for Europe & Asia.

In a joint statement, Alan Bergman, Dana Walden, and Jimmy Pitaro commended Chambers for his collaborative leadership style and extensive experience, while also expressing appreciation for Koeppen’s outstanding contributions. Chambers conveyed his enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting his commitment to fostering growth in the dynamic EMEA market.

Disney is restructuring its EMEA entertainment operations to align with its global strategy, aiming for unified leadership across various divisions, including Theatrical Distribution, Platform Distribution, Direct-to-Consumer, and Ad Sales. As part of this strategy, US-based global leaders will have direct oversight of regional businesses, while the regional president will continue to represent the studio locally and lead cross-business initiatives.

The company operates in over 130 markets in the EMEA region, with Disney+ playing a crucial role in its growth since its launch in 2020.
