Toei Animation Introduces ETERNA Animation Brand
Tokyo, Japan — June 5, 2025 — Toei Animation Co., Ltd. has officially launched a new original content initiative titled ETERNA Animation, marking a strategic step toward its 70th anniversary in 2026. This announcement coincides with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where the studio will present ETERNA’s debut project to industry attendees.
Advancing a Legacy of Storytelling
The launch of ETERNA Animation follows the recent global recognition of Toei’s short film Magic Candies, which secured a nomination for Best Animated Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards. This milestone reflects the studio’s commitment to evolving its creative endeavors while celebrating a legacy that spans nearly seven decades.
Fostering Innovation and Originality
ETERNA Animation aims to establish a sustainable creative platform centered on original production. It also supports emerging talent, aligning with Toei’s goal of fostering the next generation of animation artists. The brand’s identity is encapsulated in the tagline: “We create free and unforgettable animation that stays in your heart.” The name “ETERNA” underscores a commitment to lasting emotional resonance through storytelling.
Guided by five core values—Originality, Exclusivity, Artistry, Quality, and Decency—ETERNA is positioned as a vehicle for artistic expression, innovation, and emotional depth.
First Project: FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki
The brand’s inaugural project is the short film FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki, directed by Takeru Shinozuka in his first commercial role. Scheduled for release in 2026, the film addresses themes of isolation, fantasy, and self-discovery. Shinozuka, an alumnus of Tokyo Zokei University and an in-house talent at Toei Animation, has developed a distinct style through his comprehensive involvement in direction, storyboarding, and design.
The project is produced by Yoshihide Moriyama, whose work includes ELEMON, Tokyo 7th Sisters, and Ring ni Kakero.
Global Debut at Annecy Festival
FOXING: Kitsuné-tsuki will be unveiled during a Work-in-Progress session at the MIFA Talent Panel on June 13 at 11:15 a.m. in Room 4 of the MIFA Campus. The event will feature exclusive pre-production visuals and insights from both the director and producer, offering a behind-the-scenes look into the ETERNA Animation vision.
