Superprod Animation and France Télévisions Team Up for Animated Adaptation of ‘FRNCK’

France-based Superprod Animation has signed a development deal with France Télévisions to produce a 26-episode animated series based on the acclaimed comic book FRNCK. Each episode will run for half an hour, bringing the beloved comic’s humor and adventure to the screen for a new generation.

Series Synopsis:
The story follows Franck, a 13-year-old orphan who is suddenly transported back to the prehistoric era, a world filled with dangerous dinosaurs, giant insects, and wild plant life. Rescued by Kenza, a 14-year-old prehistoric girl, Franck is taken to her tribe, where he’s met with warmth and acceptance. For the first time in his life, Franck experiences a sense of belonging and decides to stay, navigating the dangers of this untamed world while learning the true meaning of family and connection.

Julie Durot, managing director at Dupuis, expressed enthusiasm for the adaptation:

“We’re thrilled to see FRNCK make the leap into animation. The collaboration with Superprod and France Télévisions promises to capture the comic’s humor and sense of adventure while exploring powerful themes about modernity and humanity.”

Jean-Baptiste Lamotte, head of youth programming at France Télévisions, added:

“We’re very excited to bring FRNCK to life with the talented team at Superprod. Through the journey of this orphaned boy in a vividly imagined prehistoric world, the series will form a deep emotional bond between the audience and its central characters as they redefine what family means.”

Camille Serceau, producer at Superprod Animation, also shared insights into the project:

“We were immediately drawn to the comic’s energy, humor, and originality. FRNCK stands out as something truly unique, and our pilot demonstrates the strength of the story and its 3D adaptation. Under the direction of Jean Duval, we’re eager to bring this prehistoric world to life and take children on an unforgettable adventure.”

Originally created by Brice Cossu (artist) and Olivier Bocquet (writer), FRNCK first appeared in Spirou Magazine in 2016 and was later released as a graphic novel series by Dupuis. The comic has since been translated into nine languages, expanded to ten volumes (with more in development), and has sold over 600,000 copies worldwide.
