Screenworks, in collaboration with Netflix, Screen Queensland, and AFTRS, is launching the Regional Crew Pathways program in regional Queensland. This initiative aims to provide training and employment opportunities in below-the-line roles for screen and media practitioners. The program will offer an On-Set Onboarding course on the Sunshine Coast from December 9 to 11, with one participant securing a 6-month paid placement in a film and television crew role starting January 2026.

The Regional Crew Pathways program, previously successful in various regions, has trained over 300 individuals and placed 13 in paid roles. Notable participants include A’mi Gray, Shanna Neisher, Willow Inman, and Juliet May, who have progressed in their screen careers. Screenworks CEO Lisa O’Meara expressed enthusiasm in extending the program to regional Queensland, emphasizing the importance of providing training and opportunities for below-the-line skilled individuals in the Australian film and television industry.

Netflix APAC director of production policy, Debra Richards, highlighted the significance of initiatives like Regional Crew Pathways in supporting Queensland’s production demands and nurturing skilled crew members. AFTRS also emphasized the program’s role in fostering a resilient and inclusive screen industry, underscoring the importance of practical training in below-the-line roles.

Applications for the program close on Friday, November 21, at 9am Queensland time. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply, with a focus on diversity and inclusivity. Screenworks is also seeking production companies and department heads across Australia to offer entry-level work placements in 2026. Placements are available in various regions, including Northern New South Wales, South East Queensland, and North Queensland.
