The Italian director expressed his long-standing connection with Marrakech and its festival.

“I will never forget my first visit to Marrakech over 20 years ago, as a guest of my friend Valentina Cervi, who was on the jury for the short film competition. Although it was my first time in Morocco, my Algerian mother grew up there and moved to Casablanca at five,” he reminisced.

“My initial landing in Marrakech was due to this incredible festival, which has since intertwined my experiences of the city and cinema. My Arab heritage is deeply connected to the festival’s remarkable spirit, and it is a great honor to lead such a distinguished jury for the 21st edition,” he added.

The jury will present the Étoile d’Or to one of the 14 first and second films competing, following last year’s winner, Asmae El Moudir’s The Mother of All Lies, which was selected by a jury led by Jessica Chastain.

The festival will take place from November 29 to December 7.
