Looking Glass Enhances Holographic Displays with iOS Support
Looking Glass has unveiled that its holographic displays now offer compatibility with iOS through Unity integration. This enhancement enables creators to operate real-time applications and 3D media using just an iPhone or iPad.
The latest iPhone and iPad models can now drive 3D multiview displays, including the Looking Glass 6″ Go and Looking Glass 16″. This development facilitates the use of Unity-built applications that leverage 3D visualization, allowing for smooth integration into applications designed for the Apple ecosystem.
“We are at an exciting crossroads where mobile technology meets 3D display,” stated Rob Kodadek, COO of Looking Glass. “With iOS support, creators and app developers now have a new avenue to bring media and interactive applications to life and share them in 3D, significantly reducing the need for extensive equipment.”
Upcoming Projects and Applications
Several iOS projects from Looking Glass are currently underway, including a holographic video player and an external avatar project in collaboration with Gugenka.
The Looking Glass holographic video player will enable users with iPhone 15 or newer models to convert their cinematic videos into holographic media, which can be displayed in 3D on the Looking Glass Go and Looking Glass 16” displays. These videos can also be shared with others. A beta version of this application, along with the updated Unity plugin featuring iOS development capabilities, is set to launch in January 2025.
Gugenka’s HoloModels is the first third-party application to integrate with Looking Glass displays, starting with the 6″ Looking Glass Go. iOS users can now connect their devices to animate their 3D avatars on an external Looking Glass display.
