Liza Minnelli is set to share her life story through both a book and possibly a television adaptation.

Magnolia Hill Productions, known for Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, has acquired the rights to Minnelli’s upcoming memoir for a TV adaptation in collaboration with Warner Bros. TV. The memoir, scheduled for release by Grand Central Publishing in 2026, is based on 15 years of recorded discussions between Minnelli and her long-time friend and creative partner, Michael Feinstein. Journalists and authors Josh Getlin and Heidi Evans are also involved in the writing process.

Sam Haskell, founder of Magnolia Hill and former agent of Minnelli at William Morris, will oversee the development of the TV adaptation.

It will also address her battles with substance use disorder and its effects on her life.

“I would not entrust this story to anyone other than Sam. My belief was always to share it only after I’m gone! Substance use disorder is not merely about willpower or strength; it involves the wiring of our brains and the influence of genetics on our lives and those we love. It’s time to eliminate the shame and stigma surrounding it. I’m thankful for the opportunity to experience longevity through my daily commitment to recovery,” Minnelli added.

Magnolia Hill’s other television projects include The Waltons Homecoming (2021), A Waltons Thanksgiving (2022), and several TV movies inspired by Dolly Parton’s music and life.
