On Wednesday, Jeff Goldblum surprised onlookers with a spontaneous piano performance at London’s St. Pancras International train station, celebrating the release of Wicked.

The Jurassic Park star, who plays the Wizard of Oz in Jon M. Chu’s upcoming musical adaptation, delivered a heartfelt rendition of a song from Wicked along with two Christmas classics while travelers and shoppers looked on.

Goldblum is not only an actor but also a musical artist. He performs with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, a band recognized for their modern takes on classic jazz and standards from the American songbook.

The station where he performed unveiled a Wicked-themed Christmas tree, in collaboration with Universal Pictures, to commemorate the film’s release. By playing at the St. Pancras piano, Goldblum joined the ranks of Grammy winners like Alicia Keys and Norah Jones, as well as renowned performers Rod Stewart and Jools Holland. Other famous artists who have played at the iconic St. Pancras piano include Elton John and John Legend.

Goldblum attended the film’s European premiere in London on Monday night at the Royal Festival Hall alongside co-stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh, Bronwyn James, and Ethan Slater.

Producer Marc Platt, who has overseen the musical’s historic Broadway run, expressed gratitude, stating, “It’s been a long journey to get here. I want to thank my colleagues and friends at Universal Pictures for their support of the show and of the film for all these many, many, many years.” He explained that the film’s development took time because he was searching for the right director, noting, “I was waiting for someone who had such imagination, such talent, and such humanity to raise his hand and say, ‘I want to direct this film.’”

According to leading research firm NRG, Wicked is projected to open with $85 million at the box office, which would mark one of the largest openings for a musical, as per sources with access to the data shared with The Hollywood Reporter.
