Korean Animation Studio Mir Partners with Paramount and Nickelodeon for Exciting New Film

 

Studio Mir, the acclaimed Korean animation studio known for its impressive work on Netflix’s adult animated series Devil May Cry and Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, as well as Warner Bros. Animation/DC’s Watchmen direct-to-video films and Disney/Marvel’s X-Men ’97, has announced a significant collaboration with Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. Together, they are set to produce the much-anticipated theatrical feature The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.

 

This innovative film will combine traditional 2D animation with cutting-edge CG technology, resulting in a distinctive hybrid visual style that promises to captivate audiences.

 

Based on Nickelodeon’s award-winning and critically acclaimed series Avatar: The Last Airbender, the film is slated for release on January 30, 2026. The story will continue several years after the series, following the Avatar, now in his 20s, and his friends as they embark on a new adventure.

Their artistic vision and profound connection to the Avatar universe make them an ideal partner in bringing this new narrative to life,” stated Traci Balthazor, Executive Vice President of Physical Production at Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies.

 

The film is directed by series veteran Lauren Montgomery, known for her work on Superman: Doomsday, Wonder Woman, and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, with William Mata co-directing. The original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, will serve as executive producers alongside Eric Coleman. The voice cast features Eric Nam as Aang, Dave Bautista as a mysterious villain, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, and Steve Yeun in a yet-to-be-announced role.
