Today, the Academy Award-winning distributor GKIDS announced an exciting collaboration with Shout! Studios to launch brand new 4K UHD releases of the early film catalog from acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda.

The inaugural titles in this series include the Oscar-nominated director’s groundbreaking 2009 film Summer Wars and the critically acclaimed 2012 masterpiece Wolf Children. These new home entertainment editions will feature stunning new artwork, available in a 4K UHD SteelBook format, a standard Blu-ray version, and on digital download-to-own platforms.

Mark your calendars: Summer Wars will be available on April 1 (pre-order here), while Wolf Children will follow on August 5 (pre-order here).

Last year, GKIDS secured the North American distribution rights to Hosoda’s impressive film catalog. Previously, GKIDS released the Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated film Mirai (2018) and the highly praised Belle (2021), which has become Hosoda’s highest-grossing film in North America. Notably, all six of Hosoda’s features have received nominations for the Japan Academy Prize for “Animation of the Year,” with five winning the prestigious award. Remarkably, Hosoda is the only Japanese director outside of the renowned Studio Ghibli to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
