The Qatari Film Fund is now accepting submissions for both short and feature films until February 13, 2025.

The Doha Film Institute has officially launched the application process for the 2025 Qatari Film Fund as of January 26, 2025. Filmmakers interested in this opportunity have until February 13, 2025, to submit their applications. The Qatari Film Fund is dedicated to enhancing the skills and accomplishments of Qatari filmmakers through various funding and support initiatives.

Each year, the fund backs the development of up to four feature films and eight short films, offering extensive support throughout development, production, and post-production phases. Among the selected feature film projects, one exceptional project will receive production funding in the subsequent year. The application process is structured into two funding cycles each year.

Short film projects can receive funding of up to QAR182,500, which encompasses development, production, and post-production support. Additionally, the fund provides mentorship opportunities, access to equipment, and production assistance. Successful applicants will benefit from tailored guidance in areas such as script development, budgeting, scheduling, and assembling creative teams, ensuring a smooth progression through every production stage.

Feature film projects, regardless of their current stage, are also eligible for development funding up to QAR182,500. Beyond financial support, filmmakers gain access to customized development services, including script feedback, research assistance, location scouting, casting, and legal support. The fund aims to deliver comprehensive backing to Qatari directors and screenwriters, empowering them to refine and realize their creative visions.

Emphasizing the importance of nurturing local talent, the fund offers Learning Initiatives that provide creative and technical training, mentorship, and filmmaking workshops. Qatari filmmakers are encouraged to submit early-stage film concepts, with the institute offering hands-on assistance throughout the development process and helping prepare funding applications.

To qualify for funding, a Qatari national must serve as the director, while the screenwriter and producer can be of any nationality. Short films are categorized into narrative (up to 12 minutes), animation (up to seven minutes, 2D only), and documentary (up to 30 minutes). Feature films must have a runtime of 80 minutes or longer, and directors applying for feature film funding must have previously completed at least one short film.

A director may only be associated with one project per funding cycle. Projects that were previously submitted but did not receive funding are welcome to reapply under the current eligibility criteria. However, projects already in production or post-production are not eligible, and third-party funding is not considered. Submissions must include a final or draft script, with documentary projects permitted to submit detailed treatments instead.
