Chad Michael Murray, known for his role in One Tree Hill, has shared insights about the upcoming sequel series to the beloved WB/CW drama, which is in development at Netflix. The series will be executive produced by and feature his former co-stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton.

While promoting his new Netflix film The Merry Gentlemen, where he stars alongside Britt Robertson, Murray expressed enthusiasm for fans who will witness the continuation of their favorite characters’ stories. Murray will also reprise his role as ‘Jake’ from Freaky Friday in the sequel starring the original duo, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, along with several newcomers. He expressed his hope that fans will see the film in theaters as intended, with Freakier Friday scheduled for release on August 8, 2025.

“This is a fun, absolutely insane film, and everybody just crushed it. Hats off to the entire team,” he remarked. “It’s awesome. Complicated as all get out. Oh yeah. Happily complicated.”

Prior to that release, he stars in Netflix’s The Merry Gentlemen, where Robertson’s character, Ashley, returns to her hometown to help save her parents’ struggling performing venue, The Rhythm Room, by organizing a Christmas-themed revue featuring Murray’s reluctant character, Luke. The film premieres on November 20 on the streaming platform.
