Miramax has welcomed seasoned film executive Alexandra Loewy as the new President of Film, marking her exciting return to the studio where her career began over twenty years ago. Starting as an assistant in Miramax’s New York office, Loewy is now stepping into a pivotal leadership role, officially commencing her position on May 27. She will operate out of Los Angeles and report directly to CEO Jonathan Glickman, as reported by Deadline.

Glickman expressed his enthusiasm for Loewy’s appointment, emphasizing her unique talent for identifying exceptional projects and nurturing new talent. “Ali possesses a rare ability to spot innovative ideas and emerging filmmakers, combining sharp creative instincts with genuine commercial acumen,” he stated. “She is precisely the leader we need to guide Miramax’s legacy into its next chapter.”

Loewy’s appointment follows the recent hiring of Alix Jaffe, previously of Village Roadshow, as Miramax’s Television President, indicating a broader leadership restructuring within the studio.

Before joining Miramax, Loewy spent over six years as the President of Working Title Films, where she oversaw the company’s Los Angeles operations. During her tenure, she served as executive producer for The Substance, which received an Oscar nomination, and The High Note directed by Nisha Ganatra. Additionally, she managed production on Genie, a Peacock original film directed by Sam Boyd and written by Richard Curtis, featuring talents like Melissa McCarthy and Paapa Essiedu.

Earlier in her career, Loewy was the Senior Vice President of Production & Development at di Bonaventura Pictures, where she oversaw the production of the global box office sensation The Meg, which grossed over $529 million worldwide and spawned a sequel. She also developed the action thriller Plane for Lionsgate, starring Gerard Butler. Her leadership experience extends to roles such as Senior Vice President at Global Produce and significant contributions at Red Wagon, where she played a crucial role in discovering and developing Divergent, which became a bestselling franchise.
