In this highly anticipated sequel, the narrative will delve into the universe of Kung Fury, with the only connection to the original short film being its lead character. The premise of the original short film is as follows: In 1985, Kung Fury, the fiercest martial artist cop in Miami, travels back in time to confront the ultimate villain – Kung Führer, a.k.a. Adolf Hitler. Kung Fury 2 is an original project that has faced significant delays in its release. Directed by the talented Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, known for his work on various short films and commercials, this sequel is penned by Tyler Burton Smith. Here’s the full backstory: “Development of Kung Fury 2 commenced shortly after the featurette’s release. By February 2018, stars like Fassbender, Schwarzenegger, and Hasselhoff were on board, with principal photography occurring from July to September 2019. Unfortunately, post-production was halted in September 2020 due to a lawsuit involving investors, leading to an indefinite delay in release. The film was completed by April 2024, but legal challenges persist.” The recent “leak” of the sizzle reel has also garnered attention from Variety, and we remain hopeful that the team will resolve these issues and bring this exciting project to audiences soon.
