Arab Cinema Centre’s Critics Awards: A Celebration of Excellence

Arab Cinema Centre (ACC) proudly announces the ninth edition of its Critics Awards for Arab Films, reaffirming its dedication to recognizing the region’s most outstanding cinematic achievements. The 2025 edition is set to break new ground in international engagement, uniting a remarkable 281 film critics from 75 countries to assess and celebrate Arab films that are increasingly gaining traction on the global stage.

Growing Prestige and Global Recognition

Deborah Young, the Manager of the Critics Awards, emphasized the initiative’s rising prestige, noting that the expanding jury reflects the growing significance of Arab cinema worldwide. These awards not only aim to honor artistic excellence but also strive to amplify Arab voices within the global film community.

A Decade of Impact and Evolution

As we mark ten years since the founding of the Arab Cinema Centre, Co-founders Alaa Karkouti and Maher Diab shared insights on the Centre’s evolving role in the industry. They highlighted how the Critics Awards have become a cornerstone event that consistently elevates Arab filmmaking talent and encourages cross-cultural exchange. The awards have expanded in scope and influence, continually introducing new perspectives and categories that capture the attention of international audiences.

Annual Spotlight on Arab Productions

Launched in conjunction with the 70th Cannes Film Festival, the Critics Awards are held annually in partnership with Festival Scope. They shine a spotlight on the best Arab productions from the previous year, with accolades presented in various categories, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Documentary, Best Short, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Music.

Empowering the Next Generation of Filmmakers

Beyond the awards, the ACC has played a crucial role over the past decade in supporting emerging directors and championing innovative storytelling within Arab cinema. Through mentorship, resources, and international exposure, the Centre continues to inspire the next generation of filmmakers, positioning Arab cinema as a vibrant and dynamic force in the global film landscape.
