Ajay Devgn’s ‘Raid 2’ Box Office Performance

Ajay Devgn’s highly anticipated Raid 2 debuted with impressive numbers but surprisingly fell short of the Rs 50 crore milestone by the end of its third day. As the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, expectations were sky-high from both fans and industry analysts. The film managed to accumulate a respectable Rs 49.25 crore over its first three days, just missing the coveted half-century mark.

The film kicked off its box office journey on a strong note, earning Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day, marking Ajay’s second-largest opening since the pandemic, surpassing films like Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan. His biggest opening remains Singham Again, which garnered Rs 43.5 crore on its debut.

However, on its second day, Raid 2 experienced a significant drop of 37.66%, bringing in Rs 12 crore. This decline was anticipated, as the film was released on a Thursday, coinciding with a holiday in Maharashtra for Labour Day. Fortunately, the film rebounded by over 50% on Saturday, with early estimates indicating a collection of Rs 18 crore. This surge was fueled by positive word-of-mouth, Ajay Devgn’s strong appeal in mass markets, and the weekend advantage.

Despite this recovery, the film’s total earnings settled at Rs 49.25 crore by the end of Day 3, narrowly missing the Rs 50 crore target. Industry experts believe that while the film has performed reasonably well, the intense three-way box office competition has limited its growth. Hit 3 has shown strong performance in the Telugu market and beyond, while Retro has secured decent numbers in Tamil Nadu. This audience fragmentation likely hindered Raid 2 from reaching its expected weekend target.

Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, Raid 2 features a talented cast including Ritiesh Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, and Saurabh Shukla in key roles. It will be intriguing to see how the film performs on Sunday.
