Exciting Developments for “Shogun” Season 2
Hiroyuki Sanada, the star of “Shogun,” recently shared that filming for Season 2 of the Emmy-winning FX series could commence as early as this fall.
Production Insights
“We are targeting this fall for production, and the writers’ room is currently putting in a tremendous amount of effort,” Sanada mentioned during the AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards in Los Angeles. “We plan to retain half of the cast from Season 1 while introducing new talent. We are actively assembling the best crew for the upcoming season, and I’m genuinely excited about it.”
Awaiting the Greenlight
Although “Shogun” Season 2 has not yet received the official green light from FX, both the creative team and cast members are hinting at what’s ahead for this captivating 17th-century drama. In January, creator and executive producer Rachel Kondo indicated that development for the new season is “ongoing,” though she was cautious about revealing additional details.
Commitment to Progress
“We’re still pushing forward. We haven’t lost hope, but I’m uncertain about what we can disclose,” she stated. Justin Marks, Kondo’s husband and co-creator/executive producer of “Shogun,” added, “We’re about six weeks away from wrapping up the writers’ room.”
New Opportunities on the Horizon
In October, Marks secured a TV overall deal with FX, allowing him to develop new projects for the network. This includes potential new seasons of “Shogun,” which will be created in collaboration with Clavell’s estate.
A Winning Streak
At this year’s Golden Globes, “Shogun” garnered four awards, including Best Television Series and Best Actor in a TV Drama for Sanada. The show also achieved remarkable success at the 2024 Emmys, winning 18 awards—the highest number for any single season of a television series.
