Exciting Announcements from the 2025 César Awards
Today, the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, France’s prestigious film academy, unveiled the 11 nominations spanning 24 categories for the upcoming 2025 César Awards. Among the highlights, there are three nominees each for Animated Feature and Animated Short, along with four nominations for Visual Effects.
One standout contender is The Most Precious of Cargoes, an animated feature by Michel Hazanavicius that tells a poignant story of a found family during the Holocaust. This film has garnered nominations in three categories: Animated Feature, Adaptation (Hazanavicius and author Jean-Claude Grumberg), and Original Music (Alexandre Desplat).
Leading the nominations is The Count of Monte-Cristo with an impressive 14 nods, followed closely by L’Amour Ouf with 13 and the Oscars frontrunner Emilia Pérez with 12.
The Academy reported a robust participation rate of 71.4% in this voting round, with 3,535 votes cast. All 4,951 members are invited to participate in the final voting phase from February 5-28. The 50th César Awards ceremony is set to take place on Friday, February 28, at the Olympia in Paris, and will be broadcast live on Canal+.
This year, the Honorary Césars will be awarded to the acclaimed actress Julia Roberts and renowned director Costa-Gavras.
