Fox Announces Second Season of “Murder in a Small Town”

Fox has confirmed the renewal of its “cozy crime” drama, Murder in a Small Town, for a second season.

This renewal, based on the Karl Alberg novel series by L.R. Wright, marks Fox’s first renewal of a live-action scripted series for the 2025-26 season.

Produced by Sepia Films in collaboration with Fox Entertainment and Future Shack Entertainment, the series is also broadcast on Canada’s Global networks. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, wrapped up in November.

Brooke Bowman, executive vice president of drama programming and development at Fox, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, stating, “We look forward to giving fans a second season of Karl Alberg’s unmatched expertise as a crime solver in Murder in a Small Town. We’ve enjoyed a terrific partnership with Sepia and Future Shack and our incredibly talented cast and crew and can’t wait to see what’s in store for our characters next season.”

The series follows Karl Alberg (played by Rossif Sutherland), who relocates to a serene coastal town to escape the pressures of urban police work. However, he soon discovers that his new environment harbors numerous secrets, requiring him to leverage his exceptional detective skills to solve the cases that arise.

The cast of season one also includes Kristin Kreuk, James Cromwell, Stana Katic, Mya Lowe, Savonna Spracklin, Aaron Douglas, Fritzy-Klevans Destine, Katey Wright, and Dakota Guppy.

Jeff Wachtel, CEO of Future Shack, remarked, “We couldn’t be more excited about our continued relationship with our terrific partners at Fox and Sepia. In addition to the validation as a creative and popular success, getting a second season pickup confirms that Future Shack’s international model can create high-quality and cost-effective series.”

According to Nielsen, Murder in a Small Town averaged 3.15 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing, excluding streaming. Fox has indicated that the show ranks among its top three performers of the season on Hulu, although specific data was not provided. As an international co-production, the series is also more cost-effective for Fox compared to typical hour-long dramas.

Ian Weir serves as the head writer for Murder in a Small Town and is an executive producer alongside Nick Orchard of Soapbox Productions, Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia of Mojo Global Arts, and Jon Cotton.
