Maxon Acquires Laubwerk to Enhance 3D Asset Offerings

Maxon, a leading software provider for 2D/3D design, motion graphics, visual effects, and visual content creation, has announced its acquisition of Laubwerk, a Berlin-based company specializing in procedural 3D plant models. This acquisition will integrate hundreds of intricate 3D botanical assets, materials, and tools into the Maxon creative ecosystem.

“The addition of the Laubwerk team to Maxon will create synergies that foster greater innovation in our products and expand creative opportunities for artists,” stated David McGavran, CEO of Maxon. “Laubwerk’s extensive library of plants and trees, which we have already begun incorporating into Maxon One through our long-standing partnership, is highly valued by artists in architectural visualization and visual effects. Their expertise will be crucial in enhancing our efforts to streamline artists’ workflows by providing ready-to-use, parametric assets that can kickstart their projects.”

Philip Losch, Chief Technology and Product Officer at Maxon, remarked, “The acquisition of Laubwerk is a natural and exciting progression of our enduring partnership. Their proficiency in high-quality 3D plant modeling aligns seamlessly with our technologies. Together, we can significantly improve the creative capabilities and workflows for users globally.”

This acquisition is part of Maxon’s ongoing Capsules initiative, aimed at equipping artists with essential assets to ignite their creativity. Subscribers of Maxon One will soon have access to a selection of Laubwerk’s Redshift-ready trees and plants directly within the Cinema 4D Asset Browser.

“Laubwerk’s mission has always been to develop the most authentic, versatile, and user-friendly digital plant models, drawing from the expertise of seasoned landscape architects and botanical specialists,” said Philip Paar, CEO and Founder of Laubwerk. “Our previous collaboration with Maxon has been immensely rewarding, characterized by a shared dedication to innovation and enhancing the creative process for digital artists. Joining forces with Maxon enables us to utilize their vast resources and reach, allowing us to elevate our offerings and continue advancing 3D plant modeling and visualization. We are excited about the new opportunities this partnership will create for the industry.”

As Laubwerk integrates into Maxon, a wider array of assets will be made available to subscribers in the future. Additional updates for existing Laubwerk customers will be communicated at a later date.
