Event Details

The 14th edition of LAFF is scheduled to take place from January 9 to 15, 2025. This year’s festival will pay special tribute to renowned Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawy, featuring screenings of four of his films. Additionally, the festival will commemorate the legacy of the late cinematic icon Nour El Sherif and celebrate the centenary of the legendary Shoukry Sarhan.

Tributes to African Cinema

In addition to El Nabawy, the festival will recognize the contributions of notable figures in African cinema, including Egyptian director Magdy Ahmed Aly, Senegalese filmmaker Moussa Sène Absa, Ghanaian actress and director Akosua Busia, and Tunisian actor Ahmed Hafiane.

Workshops for Emerging Filmmakers

LAFF will also host a four-day short film screenwriting workshop as part of its Factory Initiative platform. This workshop, conducted in collaboration with Film Independent and the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, will be led by a U.S. filmmaker. Its goal is to foster and enhance the creative expression of Egyptian filmmakers through short film projects, making it accessible to emerging talents in Egypt.
